Sly & Robbie came up as part of the Revolutionaries band in the '70s, contributing as the house band at Kingston's legendary Channel One Studio. By the time the roots reggae period gave way to the secular-minded dancehall era of the early '80s, Sly & Robbie had gone into the production business themselves with their Taxi label.

  5. Great duo vocals from the team of Albert Bailey and Clifton Howell – recording here with some excellent rhythms from Sly & Robbie and the rest of the Channel One crew! The music is mostly mellow, with a stepping groove that works great for the harmonies of the pair – and there's a fair bit of roots numbers here, mixed with some warmer lovers' rock titles too.

Sly Dunbar, then drumming for Skin Flesh and Bones, and Robbie Shakespeare, playing bass and guitar with the Aggrovators, discovered they had the same ideas about music in general (both are fans of Motown, Stax Records, the Philly Sound, and country music, in addition to Jamaican record labels Studio One and Treasure Isle), and reggae production in particular.
